Major Derri G. Stormer joined the Wake Forest University Police Department in January 2016 and currently serves as Major of Support Services, Strategic Initiatives, and Community Engagement, reporting directly to the Chief of Police. In this executive leadership role, she provides strategic oversight, operational direction, and organizational accountability for Strategic Initiatives, Support Services, and Community Engagement. Her portfolio includes recruitment and retention; accreditation and departmental assessment; special events and large scale operations; security services; victim services; Rape Aggression Defense (RAD); Deacon Student Patrol; community policing initiatives; and the development and implementation of policy, procedure, and professional development programming.
With more than 25 years of progressive campus law enforcement experience, Major Stormer is recognized for building high-performing teams, strengthening operational infrastructure, advancing accreditation standards, and fostering meaningful community partnerships that enhance safety and trust.
A native of Bertie County, North Carolina, Major Stormer spent much of her adult life in Greenville, NC. She graduated from Basic Law Enforcement Training at Pitt Community College in 2001, already having been selected to serve with the Winterville Police Department. She later joined the East Carolina University Police Department, where she served with distinction in Patrol, Investigations, and Crime Prevention. During her tenure, she rose through the ranks as Senior Patrol Officer, Sergeant, and Commander, developing broad operational and supervisory expertise before transitioning to Wake Forest University. Major Stormer holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina Wilmington, a Master of Arts in Adult Education with a graduate certificate in Community College Instruction from East Carolina University, and a Master of Justice Administration from Methodist University. She is a graduate of the Administrator Officer Management Program (AOMP) at North Carolina State University and holds an Advanced Law Enforcement Certification from the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.
Her leadership has been recognized nationally and internationally. Major Stormer was named a 40 Under 40 Award recipient by the International Association of Chiefs of Police, honoring emerging leaders who exemplify professional excellence, innovation, and service to the law enforcement profession. In 2021, she received the Building the Dream Award from Wake Forest University and Winston-Salem State University, recognizing individuals who embody the principles of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and actively promote equity, inclusion, and community advancement.
While her professional accomplishments are significant, Major Stormer considers her greatest
role is the proud mother of three daughters—Derrian, Isabella, and Adriana—who remain her
greatest source of purpose and inspiration.
