James Byrd joined Facilities and Campus Services at Wake Forest University in January 2010. He currently serves with Safety and Security in the Campus Life Division as the Senior Director of Deacon One & Security Technology.  His current responsibilities include overseeing the Deacon One staff, card access, cameras, and Security Technology capital improvements for Reynolda Campus, Charlotte Campus, and WFU Properties. Prior to this position James worked for sixteen years in Facilities Management at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in New Orleans, Louisiana.  He has degrees from Gardner-Webb University and from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and will complete an MS in Security Management in June 2026. He has earned the gold standard Certified Protection Professional CPP from the American Society of Industrial Security ASIS and the Certified Educational Facilities Professional CEFP with the Association of Physical Plant Administrators APPA.  Additionally, he has served bi-vocationally in music ministry for 40 years and currently serves as part-time Minister of Music at Quaker Gap Baptist Church in King, NC. He is married to Amy and together they have a blended family of six children and five grandchildren.
