Patrol Major, University Police

Major Jamie Herring joined the Wake Forest University Police Department in January of 2022. He currently serves as Commander of Patrol Operations, which oversees police officers on patrol as well as the records and evidence function of the department.

Jamie is a North Carolina native who graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and 1995 with a Master of Public Affairs degree. He was a student police employee at UNCG during his undergraduate years. After graduating from the Greensboro Police Academy in 1986, he left the Greensboro Police Department to work for his alma mater. He rose through the ranks to become Chief of Police in 2008. He retired in 2016 after 29 years of service. After retirement from UNCG, Jamie accepted the position of Chief of Police at Murray State University where he served for 4 years. He has an Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate from the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission and graduated from the North Carolina Justice Academy’s Management Development Program.
